Why lifestyle matters

Sedentary work, cold food, excess sweets, and daytime sleep are the primary causes — all Kapha aggravating. Unlike Western obesity, Ayurveda identifies this as Medovaha Srotas blockage — the fat channels themselves become obstructed, slowing all metabolism.

Daily habits

5:30 AM

Warm Honey Water

1 tsp raw honey in warm (not hot) water on empty stomach — Vagbhata's first prescription. Breaks solidified Meda and reduces Kapha. Never heat honey — it becomes toxic.

6:30 AM

Vigorous Vyayama

45 min vigorous exercise — Vagbhata explicitly prescribes Vyayama as the primary treatment for Sthaulya. Walk, run, or cycle. Half-capacity (sweat on forehead) is the target.

Before meals

Trikatu with Honey

Trikatu churna (ginger+pepper+pippali) with honey before each meal — kindles Agni deeply, begins melting existing Meda accumulation.

Pre-bath

Udvartana Powder Massage

Dry herbal powder massage using Triphala + mustard powder + Trikatu — scrapes Meda from channels, unlike Snehana (oil massage) which is contraindicated in obesity.

12:00 PM

Largest Meal — Only Meal

Eat just 2 meals — no snacking. Lunch at noon is the only substantial meal. Kapha types should eat less than hunger demands (Ardhabhakta — half-stomach protocol).

Bedtime

No Eating After Sunset

Kapha time begins at 6 PM — eating after sunset directly deposits as Meda. Triphala at bedtime with warm water clears channels overnight.

  • BMI above 35 with breathlessness — immediate medical supervision required
  • Chest pain on mild exertion
  • Uncontrolled blood sugar despite diet changes
  • Severe fatty liver — get ultrasound before starting intensive protocols
